Minnesota United has a World Cup captain on its roster. Two captains, actually.
James Rodrรญguez joined the Loons this year, and is the captain of Colombia's World Cup team. And the club's own captain, Michael Boxall, scored the goal that sent New Zealand to the tournament back in March of this year.
Minnesota United kept their full-page-height, latest-news-article layout intact, with a marquee article and the latest news as the first thing you see when you open the app. That familiar layout means fans are always met with a dramatic image on opening the app (honestly, on opening up any page of the app, which is one of the unique features of the Minnesota United FC app), and can find their World Cup news quickly.
Below the news are the club's World Cup Player Tracker and Tournament Tracker, to help fans follow the three Loons players and their nations.
James Rodrรญguez, Colombia (captain).
Michael Boxall, New Zealand (Loons captain).
Carlos Harvey, Panama.
And the trackers do their job of tracking the three players' stats on the global stage, while surfacing what matters to local fansโthe Watch Guide and the Soccer Celebration hub, showcasing the club's downtown fan fest at Peavey Plaza and Nicollet Mall all summer. Built to complement, not compete. The global game with local fandom.
United, by Design.
๐ ๐ช๐ด๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ฒ. Thank you, Evan Entler, Dan Gustafson, for collaborating with us on launching these World Cup trackers. Yours is one beautiful app. And it's because of you. As they say, design is what you leave out. I am personally a massive fan of the restrained elegance in the design of your app, your layout, your use of custom fonts, your use of the brand, and the thought and intention you put into every page and every pixel. I particularly love your use of compelling, full-height images as the first thing you see when you land on the key pages of the app.
Thank you to Stats Perform for working with us to get us the detailed stats and feeds to populate this World Cup hub across our family of football club apps.
๐ฌ ๐ข๐ฑ๐ค๐ฃ๐จ๐ณ๐ฒ. Aislinn Keenan, Samit Ghelani, Richard Pepper, Cristian Alfaro, Justin Clevenger, Lexie Vigna for their work on our new World Cup Cards for our football/soccer apps. Ana Baskinger for the ๐๐ฉ๐ช๐ฑ ๐๐ข๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ด graphic.
