Today, at 3pm ET, the USA takes on Australia in the World Cup.
Four Philadelphia Union Academy players are on the USA squad. And all four players are from the Pennsylvania/New Jersey/Delaware region.
Brenden Aaronson: Midfielder, Union Homegrown 2019
Mark McKenzie: Defender, Union Homegrown 2018
Auston Trusty: Defender, Union Homegrown 2016
Matt Freese: Goalkeeper, Union Homegrown 2019
In addition, two current Union roster players are in the tournament too: Danley Jean Jacques for Haiti, and Olwethu Makhanya for South Africa.
That's six players with Union roots. The Philadelphia Union app was absolutely ready to meet this moment. With impeccable timing, the Union app launched the This means that fans can track the USA's stats and squad in today's match, as well as these six players and their Live Stats, Player Cards, and Nation Cards, all linking directly to the full in-depth stats, summaries, and more.
The ๐๐ฐ๐บ๐ด ๐ช๐ฏ ๐๐ญ๐ถ๐ฆ ๐ฐ๐ฏ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ฐ๐ณ๐ญ๐ฅ ๐๐ต๐ข๐จ๐ฆ hub, right there, right now, on the home screen of the Philadelphia Union app, is not just a testament to these six players. It's a celebration of where it all started.
Six players, and one clubโthe Philadelphia Unionโbehind them all.
And one appโthe Philadelphia Union appโtelling their story.
๐ ๐ช๐ด๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ฒ. Kyle Mathiot, Thomas Via II, Michael Elisio, thank you for allowing us to celebrate such a big Union moment with you, through a digital tournament takeover in your mobile app. Today, of all days, when the USA plays their match, we wanted to tell the story of your app, and how it's the ultimate destination for tracking the stats of your four homegrown Union players taking the world stage today. This is a special day for the Philadelphia Union and the Union Academy, and we wanted the Union app to meet (and exceed) that moment. Thank you, Tim McDermott, for over a decade of knowing you and having had the opportunity to work with you across multiple sports teams.
๐ฌ ๐ข๐ฑ๐ค๐ฃ๐จ๐ณ๐ฒ. Aislinn Keenan, Samit Ghelani, Richard Pepper, Lexie Vigna, Cristian Alfaro, Justin Clevenger for their work on our series of World Cup takeovers and new World Cup Cards for our football/soccer apps. Ana Baskinger for the ๐๐ฉ๐ช๐ฑ ๐๐ข๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ด graphic.
